ARASI
MIDS has long prioritized women’s empowerment through its programs aimed at the socio-economic development of marginalized women. Recognizing the need for a dedicated platform to address women-centered issues, MIDS established ARASI (Association for Rural Women’s Action & Sustainable Initiatives) at three levels: cluster, regional, and MIDS. This structure was designed to facilitate women’s active participation in community development and offer a forum for discussing and addressing their specific needs.

Key activities and achievements
ARASI units were formed in clusters, bringing together members from existing Self-Help Groups (SHGs). Regional and MIDS-level ARASI units were created, with elected office bearers responsible for managing the association and developing programs for its members. Leadership training was provided to ARASI leaders to equip them for effective management and advocacy. A notable achievement was the celebration of International Women’s Day on March 14, 2020, which featured prominent speakers and honored 20 ARASI members elected to local panchayats.
Impact
The ARASI initiative has had a profound impact on women’s empowerment in the community. By creating a formal structure for women’s engagement, ARASI has enhanced their leadership skills and facilitated their involvement in local governance, as seen with the election of 20 members to panchayat bodies. The program has also fostered greater community participation and awareness around women’s issues, thereby improving the socio-economic status of women and promoting their role in development efforts.
