Jeevan

The Jeevan Programme at MIDS focuses on enhancing public health awareness and providing crucial support to cancer patients from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Launched under the Health and Wellbeing Programme on November 11, 2017, the initiative aims to combat lifestyle diseases and improve community health in Munchirai Community Development Block, Kanyakumari District.

Key Initiatives

Inauguration

The programme was inaugurated at Amala Auditorium by Most Rev. Vincent Mar Paulos, Bishop of Marthandam, with Fr. Arokiasami from TASOSS and MLA Mr. Rajesh Kumar as guest of honor, drawing over 1000 community members.

Volunteer Training: We trained 100 villagers as volunteers to identify cancer patients, organize awareness programs, and assist with treatment for cancer and kidney patients.

Awareness Programs

Ten cancer awareness programs have benefited 611 people, while 20 school health awareness programs have reached 2820 students.

Health Observances

The programme commemorates important health days like World Diabetes Day, World Soil Day, World Cancer Day, and World Water Day with engaging activities.

IEC Materials

We developed and distributed IEC (Information, Education, Communication) materials to educate the public about lifestyle diseases and promote healthy living.

Financial Support and Community Engagement

Each year, MIDS observes World Cancer Day with grand events aimed at raising public awareness about cancer and mobilizing funds for those in need. These efforts have educated the community on cancer prevention and treatment, and collected donations from the public and various sources. The funds are channeled directly through the Jeevan Programme to support cancer patients. Since its inception, the Jeevan Programme has aided over 245+ cancer patients and donated more than 12+ lakh rupees, ensuring access to palliative care services in collaboration with Sree Ram Cancer Centre, Nagercoil.

Impact

The Jeevan Programme has significantly improved community health awareness and provided essential support for cancer patients. By offering financial aid and palliative care services, the programme has alleviated the burden on patients and their families. Additionally, the initiative has fostered a greater understanding of lifestyle diseases, encouraged positive health practices, and engaged the community in meaningful health observances and awareness activities.
