Wayside Petty Shop Initiative
The irregular income of rural families poses a significant challenge to their socio-economic development, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, which further drained their income sources. To address this issue and empower low-income families, MIDS has introduced the Wayside Petty Shop initiative.

Income Diversification
The Wayside Petty Shop initiative offers an opportunity for low-income families to earn a regular income through area-specific income-generating activities.
Flexibility
These petty shops do not require rented buildings or structures, allowing beneficiaries to move them within the locality to maximize earnings.
Support for SHG Members
MIDS has provided support to 20 Self-Help Group (SHG) members to establish wayside petty shops, enabling them to achieve economic self-reliance.
Design and Construction
The petty shops were designed and constructed with the support of an engineering firm, ensuring quality and uniqueness.
Launch
His Beatitude Baselios Cardinal Cleemis, Major Archbishop-Catholicos of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church, inaugurated the programme on July 7, 2022, as part of MIDS Silver Jubilee Conclusion.
Beneficial Ventures
The movable wayside petty shops have proven beneficial for partner families, allowing them to set up their own businesses such as tea shops, vegetable vending, and fruit stalls.
Empowerment and Confidence
Successfully running these petty shop units has empowered beneficiaries, fostering confidence in enterprise management and customer relations, paving the way for future success.
