Flood Relief Activities 2018
In August 2018, Kanyakumari District experienced torrential rains and the opening of Perumchani Dam, resulting in severe flooding. The deluge caused widespread damage to homes, property, and agricultural crops, displacing many families and destroying their belongings. In response, MIDS, supported by its volunteers and partners, launched a series of relief and rehabilitation initiatives to assist the affected communities.
Key Initiatives
House Maintenance Support
Families Supported: 32 families received assistance for house repairs. Impact: Financial aid was used for essential repairs to make homes habitable again.
Goat Rearing Program
Families Supported: 28 families received support for starting goat rearing. Impact: This program provided families with goats and initial resources for sustainable livelihoods.
Restart Agriculture Activities
Families Supported: 168 families received support to restart their agricultural activities. Impact: Funds helped families to repair damaged farms, purchase seeds, and restore their agricultural activities.
