COVID19 Relief Activities
The second wave of COVID19 in India had severe consequences, with spiraling cases, reduced supplies of essential treatments, and increased deaths, particularly among the young population. From April 2021 onward, infections surged exponentially, overwhelming hospitals and healthcare systems. The lockdown imposed by the government further exacerbated the suffering of the poor in the MIDS operational area. In response, MIDS undertook various activities as part of its COVID19 relief interventions.


MIDS staff and volunteers showed immense courage and character in reaching out to affected families and providing solace. Their interventions during the peak of the COVID19 second wave were highly appreciated by the general public and district administration. Here are the key initiatives of the program:
Key Initiatives
Distribution of Cooked Midday Meals
Provided daily meals to 100 people staying on the streets/wayside from Kaliakkavilai to Marthandam from May 10 to 31, 2021.
Relief Food Packets
Distributed dryration relief food packets to 609 COVID19/lockdownaffected families to alleviate hunger and ensure food security.
Food Kits to Sri Lankan Refugees
Assisted 60 Sri Lankan Refugee families with essential food packets, ensuring they had access to basic nutrition during the crisis.
Distribution of Homeopathic Medicines
Supplied preventive homeopathic medicines to 2,000 vulnerable families to help boost immunity and prevent illness.
Immunity Boosters
Provided immunity boosters to 250 frontline workers to help them stay healthy and continue their critical work during the pandemic.
Medical Kits
Distributed medical kits (containing oximeter, thermometer, sanitizer, masks, etc.) to 315 frontline workers to aid in their safety and wellbeing.
Medicines to Leprosy Patients
Handed over essential medicines worth Rs. 44,000 to the district administration for leprosyaffected persons, ensuring continued care for this vulnerable group.
Psychosocial Support
Offered psychosocial support to COVID19/lockdownaffected families, addressing mental health and emotional wellbeing during the crisis.
SUDHIR Volunteer Service
Mobilized volunteers to actively participate in relief efforts and support services, demonstrating community solidarity and resilience.
